I Love College Football

I LOVE college football. I’ve loved football generally since I was a kid, and even was a cheerleader in high school (don’t judge). But very little compares to watching rival college football teams take the field to the roar of the crowd (especially in the student section). I love the sheer passion with which college players play the game: there’s nothing they can’t do, and no team they can’t beat if they just try – just play well enough. The best part? Every week brings a surprise – a major upset, amazing plays and more – which makes me giddy with anticipation.

For all of its emphasis on rivalries, I’ve also found college football to be a great connector. We might talk some trash about each other’s teams, but mostly college football fans really like each other because of the shared passion for the game. And this is especially true on Twitter – where I’ve made some great friendships with people over our love for the sport (I wrote about one such friendship here)

So, I’ve been inspired to create a College Football Pick’em group called CFBTwitteratti. Essentially, each week Yahoo! serves up 20 or so games and players must pick the winners against the spread. It gets you into following the sport generally rather than just your team of choice. And thanks to the unpredictability of the sport, it really is fun. I’ve played in a Pick’em group for several years now, and decided to start a Twitter group because the added layer of Twitter conversations among the players is going to make playing this all the better. So if you’re a CFB fan on Twitter, send me your email address and I’ll send you the information to join.

I’ve created a Twitter list (@jennifervides/cfbtwitteratti) so the players can all follow each other, and we’ll be using the hashtag #CFBT if you want to follow the trash-talking.  Each week I’ll post an update here on the group’s standings, with some commentary, too.

And with that…I’m officially ready for college football season, and for my University of Miami Hurricanes to run through the smoke into the stadium.

Bring it!
